![]() Action Comics #60 (May 1943) - Lois Lane - Superwoman.Superman #19 (November/December 1942) - ∼ase of the Funny Paper Crimes.Superman #13 (November/December 1941) - The Archer.Pre-Crisis Superman Comic Book Reviews 1938-1949 It was entertaining, but I wouldn't say the greatest. Unfortunately, Guardian looks bored, Goody's costume is colored wrong again, and the blurb ( Rushing towards the greatest climax ever seen in comics) is a bit of a lie. I like the colors, there is some background (if you consider flames background), and there is actual action. Not just because of the fact that it is Kirby's art, but after the previous issues having a somewhat 70s experimental, psychedelic, look to them, the people on this, between their hair styles and clothing, look like refugees from an old issue of Fantastic Four.Ĭover Art - 4: Neal Adams returns to help Jack Kirby with the cover again, and I must say it's not bad. However, after all this time of seeing DNAliens and 4-Armed Terrors, this is really the first time we've seen these characters in the "real" world, and unfortunately a lot of it looked like I was reading a 60s Marvel book, especially with the bus scene. However, they weren't even mentioned, so we can only imagine what has happened to them since the end of the last part of this story.Īrt - 4: Kirby's art was great again this issue. I didn't even mind the lack of the Newsboys, especially since they'd been getting a little whiny lately. Also, we get to see Superman meet Lightray for the first time, which was cool. I liked the pacing, the character interactions, Guardian finally getting into some solo action and showing what he can do (even though we don't actually see most of it). No part of Kirby's story in Jimmy Olsen has been skipped, I promise.Īs for this issue, I loved it. Story - 5: Okay, first of all, before I talk about this issue I want to point out that I realize that I skipped an issue, but issue #140 was a Giant issue, that reprinted old Silver-Age stories, most of which involved Superman and Jimmy as Nightwing and Flamebird in Kandor. After Edge explains that they are no longer needed, they turn to leave, but Don Rickles shouts that he's the bomb and tells them to take him away as he makes ticking sounds. It is Clark, who has been sent home via boom-tube by Lightray.Ĭlark and Jimmy decide to use this opportunity to talk to Edge about what has been going on, but suddenly the bomb squad breaks into the office. Don, who seems to be cracking up at this point, comes back in to take a seat now that things are back to normal, but is suddenly rocked by a boom-tube opening behind him. He them tells everyone that Mannheim and his men have been arrested and that this little adventure seems to be over. He quickly goes to Edge's office and gives Jimmy and Goody the antidote, explaining that he had already taken it, which it why he wasn't aflame. Edge sends Don into another room for safety, just as Guardian bursts in through a window. Suddenly, both Jimmy and Goody begin to burst into flame, which does not hurt them, but does make them weak. As Edge calls for the bomb squad, Don and Goody finally meet, and Goody begins driving Don crazy. Mannheim brings in more troops to fight Guardian.Īt Morgan Edge's office, Goody and Jimmy interrupt the contract talks to ask for help. He enters through an air vent on the roof and deflects blaster fire with his shield. Jimmy calms him down as we cut to Guardian, who has used the rooftops to catch up to, and overtake, Inter-Gang's mobile HQ. This upsets Goody and his anger causes smoke to come out of his pores. On Earth, Jimmy and Goody are on a bus to WGBS when the other riders begin to become annoyed by Goody's inability to shut up. When Lightray points out that some of Darkseid's para-demons are heading towards the ship, Clark quickly accepts Lightray's offer of help. Clark has heard of Apokolips, and its master Darkseid, from some strange kids he met on Earth (See Forever People #1). He tells Clark that that the ship is heading to Apokolips and offers to save him. They lead Rickles into Edge's office, and the men begin haggling over a contract.īack in the other-universe, the man of light actually flies into the UFO (without damaging the ship) and introduces himself as Lightray. At the WGBS building, Don Rickles has arrived and is immediately mobbed by the employees, only to be saved by Morgan Edge and Miss Conway. In Metropolis, Guardian tells Jimmy and Goody to head to the WGBS building to get help while he goes after Inter-Gang to try to get an antidote against the Pyro-Granulate. As he sees that it is actually a man inside the light, he notices that it is heading straight for the UFO. Suddenly, Clark notices what appears to be a beam of light flying through space. Clark Kent is still in the UFO, which is flying through the strange other-universal galaxy. ![]()

It was really odd to realize that, without having consciously contrived it, I was so clearly part of a tradition that I hadn’t even known existed. I was floored because I felt like I’d discovered my father or something. Somebody heard me playing at a little gig out here and came up to me and said, “You must be a huge John Martyn fan.” They were gobsmacked that I didn’t know who he was and they came to the next gig with a mixtape of John Martyn songs. I was turned on to John Martyn before Nick Drake. I get very embarrassed talking to other musicians because I seem to know relatively very little. I’m actually really pretty ignorant when it comes to musicology in general. Were you influenced by people like Nick Drake and John Martyn? You were talking about Pink Floyd’s sound, but yours is very different, very stripped down. a few years ago that I fell into it as what I was going to do in life. It certainly wasn’t for anybody else, and it wasn’t until I got out here to L.A. I didn’t think of it as anything serious, it was more teenage therapy. Like most troubled teenagers, probably when I was 16, 17, but it was obviously complete rubbish at the time. I wasn’t one of those kids that collected records, I just seemed to absorb everything. I wasn’t one of those kids that was crazy about music: I didn’t have posters on the wall or followed some band religiously, I wasn’t obsessive about anything. I always think first hearing Pink Floyd was probably the biggest musical awakening in terms of what a band could sound like. What were your formative listening experiences? I sang pretty early on in a choir and I think that’s where I got my ear for harmony, but it certainly wasn’t something I knew was my destiny or anything until much later on. I picked up pretty much every instrument on my way to the guitar: piano, violin, trumpet, I even tried the bagpipes for a while. I remember classical music a lot as a child-Beethoven banging away in the background-but not anything exceptionally out of the ordinary. There was always music, but I wouldn’t say my family was particularly musical. I started playing piano early on like a lot of kids. What was your childhood like from a musical perspective? #ALL MY DAYS ALEXI MURDOCH LYRICS MOVIE#tour to discuss his musical background, why filmmakers love his music so much and his future movie plans. One of Murdoch’s best-known songs, All My Days, features on the film’s trailer and has already created a buzz, while the film’s soundtrack recalls movies from a more innocent time featuring folky soundtracks by a single artist or band, such as The Graduate (with its contributions from Simon and Garfunkel) and Harold and Maude, featuring the music of Cat Stevens.įilmInFocus caught up with Murdoch recently during his U.S. The soft-voiced singer-songwriter, however, is set to for even greater heights now that his music forms the backbone of the soundtrack for Away We Go. And, in 2006, Time Without Consequence, reached #25 in Billboard’s Heatseeker chart. When Murdoch put out his debut recording, Four Songs EP (2002), word of mouth spread quickly and it ended up becoming the highest selling release ever on the CD Baby website. He was born in London, raised in Scotland and studied at Duke University and admits, “I’ve never really felt that I’ve had a place that was quite home.” He has also very much has chosen to take the road less traveled in terms of his career: He has so far shunned a major record deal, instead choosing to self-release his work, but has found considerable success regardless. His music is rooted in the present but has a timeless quality to it, and if you think it sounds like the young troubadour has wanderlust, then you’re right. Murdoch has a spare, stripped down sound and sings gently evocative folk songs in the tradition of fellow Brits such as Nick Drake and John Martyn. When he first heard Time Without Consequence, the debut album from Scottish singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch, he knew he had found what he was looking for.
